Cords of Passion

I started out this morning on an eight mile backpacking adventure. It doesn’t really end anywhere special like the top of some secluded mountain or anything like that. I am preparing for such an adventure by walking with a half loaded pack along the bike trail from Peters Creek to Eagle River. The picture above is from the foot bridge over Peters Creek.  I had to stop though, because I need to write this down.

A few weeks ago I wrote about Jesus’ first miracle in turning water into wine. There was a challenge there for me, to speak boldly and let Jesus do the rest. Since then truth has been spoken into my life concerning the condition of my heart and the things God may want me to do in His kingdom. I am hungry folks, hungry for the revival of the body of Christ. I am seeking a broken heart.

It is interesting in the Gospel of John that the next action Jesus takes is to go up to Jersalem for the Feast of the Passover to walk into the temple, pause briefly to make a whip out of some cords and drive most of the people out of the temple court saying, Get out! You have made my father’s house a den of thieves! (My words, reference John 2:13-17)  I my minds eye Jesus walked into the temple that day and His eyes filled with tears. He knew the work He had come to do.  He knew the cost of the plan. You see, the same passion that drove the cords into the backs of the haughty, cheap purveyors of the religious system of the day was the same passion that caused Him to pick up the cross after being beaten without mercy and receiving an undeserved sentence for the great love He had given so freely. The truth that is before us this morning is that for the work of Jesus Christ to continue a powerful ministry the church needs to feel the sting of the cords of passion.

God Almighty,

Regardless of what it means in my life in terms of change or pain. Let this passion flow freely through my life. Amen

His Kid, Your Brother
