My Prayer for my Daughters

Dear Heavenly Father,

I bow before you Almighty God. Here in your presence I come to return to You the beautiful gift You have given me…my daughter. My heart sings, Almighty God, when I consider what you have made. She is perfect and beautiful, one in whom You obviously delight. From her flows the riches of kindness and gentleness, and words that bring hope and light to those you bring into her path. She is a well of goodness and life. I praise you because she is fearfully and wonderfully made; Your work is wonderful in her.

Lord, there is this matter of her heart. I hold her heart before You God, it is the most precious thing You have made. I give You her heart just now. You have already redeemed her heart and the power of Your cleansing causes her face to shine and Your love to flow freely to everyone she meets. I pray that this heart I hold before You will be protected in Your mighty hand. As her father, Lord, I know that someday I will need to give her heart to another man whom You have prepared to be her husband. I pray that this man will give her to You as I have done and will continue to do every day of her life. Keep this heart safe and pure, focussed on You so that when trouble comes and this heart is broken she will know where her source of strength lies and that You will always be in the midst of the storm. Her heart is Yours.

This life is so precious, I tremble at the thought of harm or danger coming to her. I wish to hold her tightly and strike out fiercely at anything that would touch her to cause her pain. I know that this cannot be. She must grow and suffer pain. As I give you this part my heart breaks. I have known deep pain and when I see the hurt in the tears she cries my heart aches. I must give her life to you for you are the one who works all things for the good of those who trust in you. I ask, Heavenly Father, that as I give her to you that you will surround her in the body of Christ with those who will speak your words into her life, lift her up, and strengthen her.

I pray your richest blessing upon my daughter. Fill her with your grace so she can see past the unnecessary, frivolous remarks and actions of others. Give her discernment to speak wisdom in every situation. Bless her with quiet time where she can increase her understanding of your ways and seek you. Let the kingdom of heaven be her reality; let her sow lavishly and reap richly the fruit of the kingdom. Fill her, Lord, with the power of the Holy Spirit, a deep well of life gushing forth in a passion for righteousness and truth. Let your unfathomable love continue to shine in this, your beloved creation.

This is my daughter, God. Nothing on earth can fill the place she holds in my heart. When life comes between us and our relationship waivers, please let us fix our eyes on you so that we can be restored to one another. I bring her to you because you love her with a greater love than I. You knew her before she was conceived and while she was in her mother’s womb you consecrated her and appointed her for work in your kingdom. Still, she is mine as well and as I find balance in the letting go and holding close let me be faithful to her in being her father here on earth. I find peace in this moment knowing that she is safe with you and that in your presence there is life forevermore.

Amen
